09.07.2008 | AirBridgeCargo Airlines Delivers Peter the Polar Bear to Japan

A seven-month-old polar bear named ‘Peter’ has arrived safely in Nagoya, Japan, on board one of AirBridgeCargo’s (ABC) Boeing 747-400 scheduled cargo services from St. Petersburg, Russia.

Peter’s new habitat is the Shizuoka Zoo, situated on the Pacific Ocean coastline. The bear cub was given as a gift by St. Petersburg Zoo.

The shipment was organized by logistics company Air Traffic and was performed in compliance with IATA’s strict Live Animals Regulations. The bear was accompanied by two veterinary specialists and flew in a special transportation cage. In accordance with the shipper’s requirements, the cargo deck temperature was kept at a constant 15°C during the nine and-a-half-hour flight thanks to the aircraft’s ability to set different temperature levels in specific holds in its cargo area.

St. Petersburg Zoo expressed their gratitude to ABC personnel for ensuring the safe delivery of the cub to its new home.
