AirBridgeCargo Airlines and Liege Airport to the rescue of India

This Saturday, May 22, an AirBridgeCargo (ABC) plane took off from Liege Airport with humanitarian cargo to India. Faced with the Covid-19 epidemic, Indian hospitals are lacking oxygen for their patients. The airport and its partners play a major role in humanitarian flights.

AirBridgeCargo's Boeing 747-400ERF took off early on Saturday for Indira Gandhi International Airport to bring oxygen purification systems to Indian hospitals. The urgent delivery was organized in close cooperation with ABC’s long-standing partner, Chapman Freeborn, The global aircraft charter specialists.

Yulia Celetaria, Global Healthcare Director of Volga-Dnepr Group (consisting of three airlines - AirBridgeCargo, Volga-Dnepr and ATRAN), highlighted: 'With 30+ years of experience in humanitarian sector, Volga-Dnepr is proud to collaborate with like-minded partners, like Liege Airport, who share the same values, especially when it comes to healthcare. During the last month our freighters operated a number of dedicated charter flights to India with vital medical supplies to help the nation suffering another COVID-19 resurgence and oxygen crisis. On top of that, we have also delivered vaccines which will enable India to continue its vaccination programme and reach herd immunity'.

"We have the experience to manage urgent requests from NGOs and United Nations Agencies in terms of logistics flows and thus allow them a quick and efficient intervention", explains Muriel Baugnée, coordinator of the Health and Humanitarian Center at Liege Airport.

Liege Airport thus confirms its major role for long term as a "health" airport in the Covid-19 crisis (transport of several hundred million masks, respirators, protection kits, vaccines, etc.).
